Why is St. Patrick's Day linked to just drinking in excess?
I mean they have parades but everyone makes it about drinking, usually excessively.
Im curious as to how and where the link between the two comes from.
Why is St.Patrick's Day linked to drinking?
St. Patrick's Day is all about celebrating being Irish. That includes a big celebration with your family and friends, playing Irish songs and serving corned beef and cabbage, green beer, and Irish coffee with your dessert. Irish coffee consists of a cup of coffee, with whatever you usually put in coffee, and a generous jigger of Irish whiskey.
Too many people associate the Irish with drinking. Some Irish drink, others don't.
If the Irish folk that you know drink excessively, you need to find some moderate drinking Irish friends.
Reply:Irish holiday.
Irish are big drinkers.
But, since it's Holy Week, people aren't downing as much.
Good thing.
Reply:Guinness stout, first brewed by Arthur Guinness in Dublin, Ireland, in 1759, has become synonymous with Ireland and Irish bars. According to the company's Web site, 1,883,200,000 (that's 1.9 billion) pints of Guinness are consumed around the world every year.
Reply:i dont know people like to drink alot sometimes
Reply:Who said that, put um up its a Brits lie
okay I'll buy ya one!
Reply:It was originally a day of feasting, which I guess could translate to a day of excess and over time drinking was added to that day of excess. People will use any excuse to drink excessively, just look also at Mardi Gras and Cinqo de Mayo.

Reply:Any excuse is great especially if it's religious. Think Fat Tuesday, aka Mardi Gras, Chistmas cheer, etc.

takes place in ireland, and it's old school story, also kinda shows you the importance of alcohol to the irish. i think a lot of irish people drank because of the was/during the war/cause they were in the war/jsut got out of the war.
Reply:How do we celebrate our christmas and new year not much different.
Reply:Because the Irish are notoriously big drinkers and there are a lot of pubs in Ireland. However, it is supposed to be about more than just this. Actually, I think it has become way over the top in this country. It's OK, but really, it's just like any other day.
