Sex linked v. sex influenced?

Compare and Contrast sex linked versus sex influenced traits. List an ex. of both types of inheritances.

THANK YOU

Sex linked v. sex influenced?
I remember learning about this in a psych class. Since that was a while ago (I should really retake those classes) I'll have to hit the internet to answer your question.

Genes found on either the X or Y chrosome contribute to one's appearance (sex-linked). "Sex linkage is the phenotypic expression of an allele that is related to the chromosomal sex of the individual." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex-linked http://ghs.gresham.k12.or.us/science/ps/...

"Sex-linked traits would be considered traits like sickle cell anemia and color blindness. They are said to be linked because more males (XY) develop these triats than females (XX). This is because the females have a second X gene to counteract the recessive trait. Thus, the trait is more likely to be visible in the male." http://www.animalgenome.org/edu/genetics...

sex-influenced:

"Sex-influenced traits:characteristic may appear in both sexes but expression of the phenotype differs. Example: Early balding (pattern baldness) in humans. Heterozygous men (b+/b) lose their hair; heteroyzgous women do not have significant hair loss. Homozygous men or women (b/b) become bald. The trait is therefore dominant in men, recessive in women. (We used b to designate the mutant baldness allele even though the allele is dominant in males.)" http://www.mhhe.com/biosci/cellmicro/har...

"Sex-limited traits: characteristic only appears (or develops) in one of the sexes. Example: Ovary development in females; Sperm development in males."

http://www.mhhe.com/biosci/cellmicro/har...

"The term sex-linkage means that the gene is located on a sex chromosome. A sex-limited or sex-influenced trait could be encoded by a sex-linked gene, but doesn't have to be. A sex-limited or sex-influenced gene could be located on an autosome." http://www.mhhe.com/biosci/cellmicro/har...
