Could it be linked to my hysterectomy?

I had the hysterectomy a year ago (aged 40) but I got to keep my ovaries. Over the last 6 mnths I've had awful mood swings from one minute crying for no reason, then laughing then anger! Is it just me going mad or can you shed any lite whether it could be linked to my op.?

Could it be linked to my hysterectomy?
menopause brought on by your op, its quite common for it to happen
Reply:I went on Premarin and felt much improved. Wait until the physical symptoms show up - vaginal dryness is the worst. Many people are against Hormone Replacement Therapy claiming it might cause beast cancer but this is unproven. After the surgery, if the blood supply to your ovaries isn't sufficient, they aren't working as they should. Even a hormone test isn't always accurate. If you feel lousy, seek help. Good luck, it will get better.
Reply:You could be starting early menopause because of the hysterectomy. You may need to go to the doc again. good luck! :) arum
Reply:having a hysterectomy is a major operation and is a relief for some and traumatic for others.

these mood swings you are having are a normal effect from this operation. it is the horemones balancing themselves out, although u may not get periods anymore your body still goes through the "motions" and u will still get PMT.

If you still feel unsure contact your GP of the link below may help.

good luck xx
Reply:Unlikely to be linked to your operation because they left the overies (the hormone producers), but very likely to be linked to menopause.

At 41 you are within the age range for your hormones to start swinging wildly.

Your doctor can do hormone level tests and tell you if this has started with you. There are a variety of natural treatments that you can try, it is a matter of discovering which is best for you.

Research the web and also contact your local health food shop.

My naturopath was wonderful.
Reply:No not at all, it's all because you are a woman and that's what you do! Sorry you've heard it hear first!
Reply:Could certainly be impaired ovary function triggered by the hyster. I had a hyster when I was 29 and began classical menopausal symptoms within 6 months. Not until 18mths later did i visit a female Dr who agreed that even if the ovaries are left intact, menopause can still begin. Then again, menopause isn't unusual in your age group. Blood tests at various times of your 'cycle' could pick up the reason.

Best wishes.
