Gene assorting & Gene linked.....?

Can someone please explain the difference between genes assorting independtly of one another and those that are linked?

Thank you....

Gene assorting %26amp; Gene linked.....?
Independent assortment refers to the random movement of chromosomes during the lining up by microtubules before meiosis ends. Say chromosome 8 somehow ends up next to chromosome 20 and once they are together gene's loci next to each other would be most likely to "switch" places.

Linked genes refers to gene's loci located withing the same chromosome, that means that regardless of where the chromosome is they would always be together because they are next to each other on the same chromosome.
